Twinkie

When people ask me how I lost weight I’m sure they expect me to tell them about the latest low-fat this or fat-free that.

I tell them I changed my mindset.

I changed the way I thought about food, weight, my body, my life.

Perhaps most important, I changed the way I thought about what I deserve.

I deserve so much more than a Twinkie.

Isn’t that what so many of you say? “I’ve had a hard day, I deserve this cupcake.” “My boss was horrible today, I deserve a cookie.” My kids drove me crazy and I couldn’t get my work done, I deserve this ice cream.”

Have you ever stopped to really think about what you’re telling yourself you think you deserve?

What if you’re selling yourself a little short here?

Wanna know what I think I deserve? I deserve to have a life full of joyous activity, grand success, riotous love and romance! And I deserve to have all of this because these are just some of the things that align with my values. So these are the things upon which I focus my attention.

It’s impossible to have one of those things, let alone all three, if you’re focused on your weight, feeling uncomfortable in your clothes and are convinced all anybody sees is the size of your arms in your short-sleeved blouse. Smart girl, YOU are the only one focused on the size of your arms.

It’s impossible to be fully engaged and engaging in a fun flirtation with the man across the table when you’re still thinking about the fact that you changed your outfit 6 times before your date and you’re still worried that your dress is too snug.

Do these thoughts align with your values?

Do these thoughts represent your true value?

You deserve so much more than a Twinkie.
